Digital Media Professionals Inc. (Headquarters: Nakano-ku, Tokyo, President & COO: Tsuyoshi Osawa, hereinafter referred to as DMP) announces that its AI platform for the safe driving field, “ZIA™ SAFE,” has been adopted by JVCKENWOOD Corporation (Head office: Yokohama-shi, Kanagawa, Representative Director of the Board, President, Chief Executive Officer (CEO): Shoichiro Eguchi, hereinafter referred to as JVCKENWOOD) for its dashcams for telematics service with communication capabilities (Model number: STZ-DR00), and is utilized for functions such as driving assistance and driver monitoring.

In recent years, as tailgating, dangerous driving by elderly drivers, and overwork due to a shortage of drivers in the trucking business have become social problems, the realization of a safer mobility society has become an urgent issue. In order to solve this issue, there are expectations for the provision of safe driving assistance systems, such as real-time detection of dangerous driving events using cameras outside the vehicle and driver monitoring using cameras inside the vehicle. Accordingly, dashcams not only play a role in recording accidents but also have come to play a role as a defense against the risks that may occur while driving.

DMP’s AI platform for the safe driving field, “ZIA™ SAFE,” which has been adopted by JVC KENWOOD, is a systematic collection of independent modules for object recognition, scene understanding, posture estimation, and other functions necessary to realize a safe driving assistance system. By combining proven “ZIA™ SAFE” modules according to the functions required by customers, “ZIA™ SAFE” supports the driver assistance functions such as forward collision detection, delayed start detection, lane departure detection, and red-light running detection, as well as driver monitoring functions such as drowsiness detection, distracted driving detection, and smartphone operation detection while driving. The platform uses AI/deep learning technology to achieve high scalability, including the ability to add detection targets later by learning additional image data of people, traffic signs and various vehicles.
DMP will continue to conduct research on AI/deep learning technology and contribute to JVCKENWOOD’s initiatives to develop “safe and secure” dashcams.

“In order to provide driving assistance functions and driver monitoring for dashcams for telematics service with communication capabilities which also focus on use as IoT and AI devices, multiple AI/deep learning processes need to be run for a long time on a general-purpose OS, and it is essential to achieve low load and low power consumption. In addition to providing “ZIA™ SAFE,” AI platform for safe driving, DMP has contributed to the realization of low-load, highly reliable, and highly functional dashcams with communication capabilities by optimizing the computational efficiency of edge-side AI processing at the software level through its highly skilled professional services,” said Mr. Takahiro Nishida, Director, 2nd Planning & Sales Department, DX Business Division of JVCKENWOOD.

“It is a great honor for us, focusing on the safe driving field, that JVCKENWOOD with a leading market share in the industry, has adopted “ZIA™ SAFE” for its dashcams with communication capabilities. We will continue to develop leading-edge AI technology and make a significant contribution to the realization of a safe and secure society,” said Tsuyoshi Osawa, President & COO of DMP.
