DMP’s edge AI processor IP core “ZIA™ DV720” has been adopted for amnimo’s industrial IoT devices

Digital Media Professionals Inc. (Headquarters: Nakano-ku, Tokyo, President & COO: Tsuyoshi Osawa, hereinafter referred to as DMP) announces that its edge AI processor IP core “ZIA™ DV720” has been adopted for industrial IoT devices provided by amnimo Inc. (Headquarters: Mitaka City, Tokyo, President & CEO: Koichi [Casey] Taniguchi, hereinafter referred to as amnimo), a subsidiary of Yokogawa Electric Corporation (Headquarters: Mitaka City, Tokyo, President & CEO: Hisashi Nara). A video recognition solution that utilizes AI using a prototype device equipped with “ZIA™ DV720” is exhibited at the amnimo booth in the “11th Japan IT Week Autumn” to be held from October 28 (Wednesday) to October 30 (Friday), 2020.

Advanced technologies such as cloud, big data, IoT and AI are now indispensable as technologies that support the evolution of business. Utilization efforts of IoT (Internet of Things) is underway in various industries such as smart meter, disaster detection, and remote monitoring of construction and civil engineering sites in addition to production, distribution and quality control of factories and warehouses. In recent years, with the spread of high-speed mobile communication networks, a method of collecting data on a cloud server and performing arithmetic processing has become widespread. However, high communication costs in uploading a large amount of video data taken by remote cameras to the cloud is a business constraint, so in many cases, it is required to process data and AI algorithm on the edge device side and to upload the minimum necessary data to the cloud. In addition, in a deep learning / AI system consisting of a huge number of edge-side IoT devices and a large-scale cloud system, the distributed processing where learning processing that handles huge data is performed on the cloud and the inference processing that requires such as real-time performance, safety and privacy is performed on the edge side is predicted to become widespread.

The edge AI processor IP core “ZIA™ DV720” adopted for amnimo’s industrial IoT devices is an ultra-low power consumption processor IP suitable for edge-side AI processing, specializing in deep learning inference processing. It enables inference processing for all kinds of data such as images, videos, and audio, and realizes low power consumption, low cost, and high AI inference processing performance, which are the requirements of network edge-side devices.

“Achieving power saving is indispensable for the long-term operation of AI processing in industrial IoT devices that are required to operate in harsh environments. In addition to providing the small AI processor “DV720″, DMP has enabled us to optimize the power performance at the system level in edge-side AI processing and to expand the possibilities of realizing highly reliable and high-quality industrial IoT devices through its professional services with technological capabilities,” said Chiharu Nakabayashi, CDO of amnimo.

“We are very honored that amnimo has adopted DV720 and professional service for its industrial IoT devices. DV720 has a proven track record in many mission-critical fields such as robotic vehicles and industrial equipment. DMP will continue to strongly support the autonomy and automation of industrial systems by providing professional services and AI products that meet the needs of customers’ systems,” said Tsuyoshi Osawa, President and COO of DMP.
