DMP Joined the Japan Drone Consortium (JDC) as a Corporate Member - Strengthening Collaboration with the Drone Industry Ecosystem and Accelerating Social Implementation of Edge AI Vision Technology Centered on Di1 -
Digital Media Professionals Inc. (Headquarters: Nakano-ku, Tokyo; Chairman, President & CEO: Tatsuo Yamamoto; hereinafter “DMP”) has announced that it has joined the Japan Drone Consortium (Representative Director: Kenzo Nonami; Headquarters: Inage-ku, Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture; hereinafter “JDC”), a general incorporated association that promotes the social implementation and industrial development of industrial drones in Japan, as a corporate member.
In recent years, against the backdrop of social issues such as aging social infrastructure, labor shortages, and the need for more advanced disaster response, the demand for industrial drones has been increasing in fields including agriculture, forestry and fisheries, surveying, infrastructure maintenance and management, as well as disaster prevention and mitigation. In environments with limited communications, edge AI vision technology—capable of performing tasks such as image recognition, distance measurement, and situational awareness on the drone side in real time—is expected to become a key technology that supports autonomous flight, automated inspections, and faster on-site decision-making.
DMP is deploying edge AI vision solutions for the drone and autonomous robotics fields in Japan and overseas, centered on its proprietary next-generation edge AI SoC “Di1.” Through participation in JDC, DMP will actively engage in cross-industry discussions and social implementation activities that transcend the boundaries of manufacturers, users, and vendors, thereby contributing to the further development of Japan’s drone industry.
■ About JDC
JDC is a cross-industry organization focused on industrial drones, established to promote the commercialization of rapidly expanding application fields. With around 300 member organizations nationwide, mainly corporate entities, JDC drives initiatives such as sharing promising deployment cases and solutions to challenges, supporting social implementation, formulating safety guidelines, operating certified training school programs, and participating in system design and international standardization. JDC also plays a central role in Japan’s drone industry by participating as a member in various study groups and committees organized by relevant government agencies (including the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and NEDO).
■ DMP’s Working Group Participation and Objectives
Within the specialized working groups established under JDC’s Industrial Promotion Committee, DMP will participate in activities in the following areas, expanding the applicability of edge AI vision technology leveraging Di1:
・ Disaster Prevention Working Group – Applying edge AI technology to disaster prevention and mitigation use cases, including real-time situational awareness in disaster areas, three-dimensional assessment of damage, and support for search and rescue.
・ Infrastructure Inspection Working Group – Contributing to AI-based automatic anomaly detection, high-precision 3D measurement, and improved inspection efficiency for social infrastructure such as bridges, tunnels, power transmission lines, plants, and rivers.
These domains are particularly well suited to Di1’s technical strengths, including its high-performance AI inference engine, real-time 3D ranging, and situational awareness using multiple camera inputs. By enabling real-time, edge-complete processing that does not depend on the cloud, Di1 delivers low-latency, highly efficient vision AI processing even in field environments with communication constraints.
■ About Di1
Di1 is a next-generation edge AI SoC developed by DMP. It integrates into a single chip DMP’s proprietary high-performance AI inference engine (industry’s first FP4 support according to DMP’s research, ViT support), a hardware-based high-precision real-time 3D Ranging Engine (Stereo Vision), and the ThetaEye AI Imaging Platform (ISP) from iCatch Technology, enabling 360-degree vision processing via four-channel camera input. Di1 is optimized for edge AI applications that require real-time performance and low power consumption, such as drones and autonomous robots. By performing AI inference, distance measurement, and situational awareness on the edge side, Di1 reduces communication load to the cloud while enabling low-latency decision support and applications for autonomous control.
Through its activities within JDC, DMP will further expand its partnerships within the drone industry ecosystem and accelerate the social implementation of edge AI vision technology centered on Di1. In addition, DMP will actively feed the insights gained from discussions and various demonstration projects in the working groups back into product development and customer proposals, thereby creating further business opportunities in the high-growth edge AI market.
