DMP, ITD Lab work together in the robotics field

Digital Media Professionals Inc. (Headquarters: Nakano-ku, Tokyo, President & COO: Tsuyoshi Osawa, hereinafter referred to as DMP) today announced that it has worked together with ITD Lab Corporation (Headquarters: Yokohama, Kanagawa; President: Takao Shigaki; hereinafter referred to as “ITD”) to verify the interoperability between DMP’s Visual SLAM software “ZIA™ SLAM” and ITD’s stereo camera. ZIA™ SLAM and ITD’s stereo camera provide an easy, high-performance package solution that helps customers shorten the time and reduce the cost of developing robotics products.

DMP is an AI tech company that contributes to solving social and customer issues in the fields of robotics and safe driving assistance by utilizing cutting-edge AI and deep learning technologies. In recent years, the development and social implementation of autonomous robots has been progressing in response to the growing needs for manpower-saving and unmanned operation to solve social issues such as the declining working population due to the declining birthrate and aging population, and the prolonged COVID-19 crisis.

DMP’s solutions for robotics products, such as ZIA™ SLAM, the proprietary SLAM software, and ZIA™ MOVE, the integrated software platform for automatic and autonomous driving that includes ZIA™ SLAM, as well as professional services, are designed to help customers reduce the risk, time, and cost of developing high-performance, high-quality autonomous robots.

ITD is a start-up company from the Tokyo Institute of Technology based on a unique parallax calculation method. Its ultra-high speed 3D distance measurement system based on stereo camera technology enables real-time distance measurement using a unique ultra-high speed algorithm, and is expected to be widely used in various fields including automatic guided vehicles (AGVs).

The collaboration between DMP and ITD in verifying and establishing interoperability between the two companies’ products and the resulting easy, high-performance package solution will eliminate the burden of interoperability evaluations between stereo cameras and SLAM software that customers have had to perform in the past, and further shorten the time and reduce the cost of product development for customers.

We provide the world’s most advanced stereo cameras for mobile and robotic applications. These applications all share a deep-rooted need for 3D perception, which is why they require a high-performance stereo camera equivalent to the human eye. Along with collision avoidance and pick-up robots, autonomous mobile robot is another typical application of 3D perception. Therefore, we are very pleased to have established interoperability with DMP’s ZIA™ SLAM and ZIA™ MOVE. With the help of DMP and other partners, we will continue to provide solutions for the limitless expansion of 3D perception,” said Takao Shigaki, President and CEO of ITD.

SLAM technology using a camera sensor is a cutting-edge core technology that requires high quality standards in order to realize autonomous robots. We are very pleased to have worked with ITD and established interoperability between its stereo cameras and our ZIA™ SLAM/ZIA™ MOVE, which together offer the industry’s highest level of accuracy. In order to become a solution vendor that can meet the high technological demands of the autonomous robot market, we are constantly striving to improve the accuracy and performance of our products and services. We will continue to support the overall development of robotics products for our customers, not only by providing our technologies, products and services, but also through collaboration with ITD and other partners,” said Tsuyoshi Osawa, President and COO of DMP.
